Therapy
What can I help you with?
Dramatherapy is a creative form of psychotherapy.

It intentionally uses drama and/or theatre processes to achieve goals.

The goal depends on the individuals and their
requirements, however, the common areas where dramatherapy can be used are:

-
Posttraumatic stress
-
Anxiety
-
Depression
-
Interpersonal relationship issues
-
Substance abuse
-
Behavioral issues related to autism
-
Rehabilitation
-
Schizophrenia
-
Dementia
-
Eating disorders
-
Learning difficulties
-
Grief and loss
Dramatherapy uses role play, voice work, movement and storytelling, rituals, improvisations, scripts, puppetry and many more to help clients explore and solve
personal and social problems.
It is an embodied practice that is active and
experiential. This approach can provide the context for participants to tell their stories, express feelings, or achieve catharsis. The context is always valid both for
the dramatherapist and the client.

There are many types of settings where dramatherapy sessions can be offered. The
most common are:

-
Early intervention programs
-
Hospitals
-
Multicultural centers
-
Outpatient and inpatient mental health settings
-
Private practice
-
Rehabilitative facilities
-
Schools and after-school programs
-
Shelters
This form of psychotherapy works both as one-to-one or a group intervention. The
initial assessment is the moment when the dramatherapist and the client meet and
based on this meeting the decision is made, whether dramatherapy is the best
approach for the client and if so, would it be best for them to join the group or work
individually.
